AI Policy
When I write for your company, I provide original, customer-focused copy and content that follows best practices for successful marketing materials.
This means I start with the information you provide, plus my own research on your market, prospects, competition, and more, and turn it into compelling, unique, and brand-appropriate messages that get attention, convert prospects into buyers, and retain customers.
All of this takes thoughtful, intuitive, and trustworthy writing that helps you stand out in your marketplace and build relationships with the right people. In short, human, solution-focused writing.
Still, you may expect me to use AI tools or request that I don’t use them. To that end, here is my AI policy as a starting point for discussion.
I consider AI to be a set of tools similar to a word processor, a dictionary, a grammar and spelling checker, and so on. In my work for you, I may use AI as my “writing assistant” in these ways: [choose any that apply to you]
- Market and prospect research: I leverage AI to analyze your target audience’s online behavior, preferences, and pain points, making sure your content resonates deeply and drives engagement and results.
- Product research: I explore the many attributes of your product ingredients or components, finding powerful and sometimes hidden benefits that wow readers and make your solutions irresistible.
- Brainstorming: I prompt AI to generate creative ideas alongside my own to attract and win over your readers, including headline approaches, blog post topics, ad variations, and more.
- Outlines: I use AI to suggest clear, helpful outline and copy structure ideas for the blog posts, white papers, web pages, and other projects I’m writing for you.
- Rough drafts: I may prompt AI to provide a rough first draft for inspiration and to explore different copy approaches… and then I’ll “deeply edit” any draft elements that I like, infusing empathy, stories, and other original content.
- Editing/Proofreading: I enlist AI tools as my proofreader, spellchecker, readability checker, and more with the aim of simplifying language, using an active voice, and packing more of a punch.
- Transcriptions: I employ AI tools to quickly transcribe interviews, videos, and more, so I can incorporate the best, real-world phrases into your projects — ensuring that your copy is real, authentic, and relatable to your readers.
- Summaries: To ensure my writing is truly on target for your audience, I use AI tools to summarize the main takeaways from an article, web page, or video.
- “Fresh takes:” As I’m working on your copy, I prompt AI to come up with fresh examples, scenarios, analogies, metaphors, turns of phrase, etc., to augment my own ideas.
- Role-playing: I give AI tools a series of specific, relevant prompts so they play the role of your customer and tell me how persuasive my copy is from that perspective… ensuring we’re not confusing or boring the customer.
IMPORTANT:
- I cite/confirm all sources of data, quotes, and other facts I use in your copy.
- If you share proprietary, confidential information with me, I NEVER use that with AI tools without your approval.
